FAIRFIELD — The Solano Economic Development Corporation is not in the tourism business, but it sells many of the same attractions as good reasons for a company to locate here.
“We are working closely with our tourism friends in the region because what we have found, and what I have found, is placemaking is important,” said Robert Burris, president and chief executive officer of the Solano Economic Development Corp.
Placemaking is a term borrowed from the planning world, but dovetails into the business attraction efforts of the Solano Economic Development Corp. by using a community’s assets as a draw.
Burris said there is a general perception about Solano that does not extend beyond a few hundred yards north or south of Interstate 80. But Burris said it is critical that executives of a new or relocating firm be happy in Solano County, so it is important to show off the outdoor activities, the wine region and other attractions.
“We have found in our marketing to play up all the views and the amenities in our area,” Burris said.
The Solano Economic Development Corp. is also considering the start of a tourism subcommittee.
