SUISUN CITY — The many ambassadors of industrious change from Fairfield and Suisun City came out to be honored for their contribution to help these two communities grow at the fourth annual Buzz Awards on Friday hosted by the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce.
“This is a way to celebrate businesses in Suisun City and Fairfield and the people who go above and beyond to give back to the community,” said Debi Tavey, president and chief executive officer of Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce.
The Suisun Harbor Theater was filled with more than 150 people who came out to show support for each other and for the those receiving awards.
“This is a wonderful venue for this event,” said Mike Segala, a Suisun City Council member.
Honored in several categories were Ambassador of the Year; Nonprofit of the Year; Best Partnership Award; Business of the Year for Fairfield and Suisun City and Citizen of the Year.
“This is very unique to have two cities honored this year,” Tavey said.
“We sold out this year,” said Melissa Manry, who helped organized the event. “The money really just covers the expenses of the event.”
This year’s Citizen of the Year was Sandy Person, president of the Solano Economic Development Corporation, which reaches out to businesses to draw them to Solano County.
Person finds herself humbled by the honor. She knows that there are many great leaders who are dedicated champions of Solano County who are equally deserving.
“It’s an honor to be recognized,” she said. “It’s never really about the individual. It is always an ensemble of people that make things happen.”
Solano Economic Development Corporation is a public-private nonprofit, dedicated to the economic growth of Solano County by scaling local trade sector industries, attracting new jobs and investment and maintaining competitive advantages for both existing and new businesses.
The tagline is “Solano Means Business” and Person said she is excited to share the many opportunities found in Solano County with those from outside the area.
“This is an important region, because Fairfield and Suisun City are abundant in assets,” she said.
The evening included guest speaker, comedian Dan St. Paul, and a dinner catered by Famous Creations in Fairfield.
