May 07 2019America's Main Streets Contest Continues: Thanks to the many votes received, Benicia Main Street has been named one of the 25 semifinalists in the America's Main Streets Contest to win $25,000 in cash.
Sponsored by Independent We Stand, the contest has organizations throughout the United States vying to prove that their Main Street is the best. The goal of the America's Main Streets contest is to help promote the importance and strong economic benefits of these Main Streets and the small businesses that help them thrive.
Benicia Main Street hopes to win the $25,000 to use as matching funds for a grant to improve ADA access to the freight room at the Southern Pacific Depot, a City-owned building housing Benicia Main Street at the foot of First Street. Improvements would give Benicia Main Street an additional 1,122 square feet of usable space to help promote Benicia and host events all year long.
